Responsible Dog Ownership Month Event

September is “Responsible Dog Ownership” month. In honor of that, on September 25 from 10 am to 1 pm, Desperate Paws of Orange County Dog Club will be sponsoring an outing at the Laguna Beach Dog Park. There will be terrific free items provided by the American Kennel Club, such as training information and canine good citizen evaluations, coloring books and pencils for the kids, and lots of stickers. We thank Stephen & Brandi from Desperate Paws for organizing this great event that will get people thinking about responsible pet ownership!

A Year Off for MBFB

After a lot of thought and a lot of mixed feelings, the FLBDP board has opted to defer My Best Friend’s Brunch until next year. It was a very difficult decision, because it is a fun and satisfying event that provides much needed funds for animal welfare…and a few laughs in the process. The truth of the matter is that FLBDP still has funds in the bank that need to be deployed at the park, and we continue to experience delays in executing our suggested projects. It does not seem to make sense to ask people to reach into their pockets (during one of the worst economic climates in recent memory) while we still have money to spend.

To all of you who so generously volunteered your time and resources, we are very grateful. Don’t worry, MBFB will be back! And we will give you plenty of opportunity to donate, contribute and participate!

Cell Tower Thwarted

We are pleased to report that the T-Mobile cell tower project that had been planned for the Dog Park has apparently been abandoned. FLBDP thanks the members of the Laguna Beach City Council who recognized the effect such a structure would have had on our park, and acted in the best interests of the City by protecting the Dog Park. We also want to extend a special thank you to FLBDP member Stephen Barkow for his quick and effective communication with our city officials on behalf of our park. Thanks, Steve!
